Frank Lampard says former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho had 'biggest impact' on his career

Lampard recently returned to the Premier League with Coventry City after guiding them to the Championship title.

The 47-year-old has done an exceptional job with the Sky Blues since taking over with the club in 17th position in November 2024.

Coventry lost in the play-off semi-finals to Sunderland last term, before bouncing back in style by winning the title by a whopping 11 points.

Upon returning to England's top-flight for the first time in 25 years, Lampard has reflected on his managerial career so far in an interview with The Times.

He recalled how Mourinho had the 'biggest impact' by giving him much more 'self-confidence' and belief in his ability to succeed.

"And there’s a Jose Mourinho character," Lampard said. "The biggest impact I remember of Jose was how much self-confidence he gave me, via his own self-confidence. I remember that transmitting.

"I was slightly humble and he went, ‘You’ve got to take it, you’ve got to be more.’ He was also very driven about being a winner: ‘We do not lose, this is what we do.’ So I take a bit of that, but I definitely cannot become Jose and I can’t become Carlo, because it’s just not me.”

Lampard made a whopping 215 appearances under Mourinho during his time at Stamford Bridge, and Chelsea's record goalscorer clearly learnt some invaluable lessons from him.
